is located in the southwestern part of Hungary. It lies near Keszthely, only 6 km from Western Balaton. It is the most important spa resort in Hungary. Lake Héviz is the second largest, biologically active, medicinal lake in the world. The temperature of the spa varies between 33˚ and 35˚C in summer, and around 24˚C in winter. The water of the lake has a special curative effect on the different kinds of rheumatic, locomotor, muscle, and nervous system´s disorders and gynaecological problems. The cure in Hévíz is not only for rehabilitation but it also serves for prevention, relaxation and recreation.

Spa

The water of the Hévíz Lake is rich in dissolved gas components, such as of carbonate, sulphur, calcium, magnesium and hydrogen carbonate. The medicinal mud, which covers the bed of the lake in a thick layer, deserves special attention. It is unique of its kind, contains both organic and inorganic substances and the radium-salts and reduced sulphuric solutions in it represent special medicinal factors. Complex balneotherapy or drinking cure has favourably effect and heal rheuma, osteoporosis, degenerative spinal/joint diseases, Bechterew syndrome, inflammation diseases of the joint in their chronic phase, tender tissue rheum, secondary diseases of the joints, as well as chronic, peripheral, nervous, and mechanical-related complaints. It may be used for post treatment of injuries and locomotor operations.

The Spa is not available for those suffering from

infectious diseases, tumours, heart failure, circulatory disorder, thrombosis and other blood production-related diseases, asthma, high blood pressure and pregnancy.

From Budapest on Motorway M7, driving along the Southern shore of Lake Balaton until Balatonszentgyörgy. From there you may take Route 76 and then switch over to Route 71 at Fenékpuszta. From direction Vienna-Sopron after exiting Motorway A1, switching to A3 towards Eisenstadt you will continue into the borderline at Sopron. From where you may take Route 84 till Balatonederics. Turning to the West and switching over to Route 71 through Keszthely, you will reach Hévíz.

’Holy Spirit’ Roman Catholic church

is the biggest one in Hévíz. It seats 1000 people. The seven towers of the church symbolize the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Lutheran Church

The redstone wall and marble decoration of the church reminds us of the Hungarian Calvinist churches in Transylvania. The execution of the woodworks is also noteworthy.

Church of the age of Árpáds

The church of Egregy is one of the most beautiful, rural churches of the Roman era. This is one of the three churches of the Árpád era still intact.

The former Roman Catholic ’Nagyboldogasszony’ church

Today this former church is used as the Mother Theresa residential home.
